Choose Shield Pressure or Stored-Power Strikes
Choose Axe and Shield for aggressive charges, Bleed buildup, enemy displacement and defensive options. Choose Warhammer if you prefer Burn buildup and heavy fire-and-thunder attacks built around storing and releasing power.
You can swap between your class's weapons during combat, and each weapon has its own trait tree. Start by deciding which play loop you want to learn, then examine that weapon's traits rather than treating Berserker as a single fixed build. The revealed mechanics below explain the distinction; announced Early Access adjustments mean older demo damage comparisons need another look.
Axe and Shield Compared With Warhammer
| Axe and Shield | Warhammer |
|---|---|
| Emphasizes aggressive charges, Bleed buildup, crowd displacement and defensive options. | Emphasizes heavy fire-and-thunder attacks, Burn buildup and storing power for a release. |
| Reckless Destroyer increases the target's Bleed gauge. | Surging Heat adds Burn, providing the weapon's documented Burn interaction. |
| Shield Slam knocks enemies back, while Reel In closes distance using a chain. | Thundering Hurl uses stored Thunder, giving you a reason to track that resource before using it. |
| Brutal Crash charges and staggers while reducing incoming damage. | Meteor Hammer channels stored power; Galactic Impact releases the accumulated Meteor Hammer power in a heavy strike. |
| Try this style first if you want to practice approaching enemies, managing spacing and choosing defensive actions. | Try this style first if you enjoy preparing an attack and choosing a deliberate moment to release it. |
How Bleed, Burn and Stored Power Fit Together
For Axe and Shield, Reckless Destroyer is the named Bleed-building action. Shield Slam, Brutal Crash and Reel In provide different positioning or defensive effects alongside that pressure. Practice recognizing whether you need to knock an enemy back, close the distance or use the charge that also reduces incoming damage.
For Warhammer, keep Burn application separate from the stored-power interactions when learning the kit. Surging Heat adds Burn, while Thundering Hurl uses stored Thunder. Meteor Hammer and Galactic Impact have a specifically described relationship: Meteor Hammer channels stored power, and Galactic Impact releases that accumulated power in a heavy strike.
Use those relationships to decide what to practice before attempting a longer sequence. Learn each named action's purpose, then watch how comfortably you can prepare it during a fight. Avoid forcing every available move into a rotation simply because it appears in a guide.
Practice Your Berserker Play Loop
- Choose a practice goal before entering combat. For Axe and Shield, focus on Bleed pressure and positioning; for Warhammer, focus on Burn application and recognizing the stored-power interactions. Judge the session by whether you understand those actions, rather than by an older demo damage result.
- With Axe and Shield, practice Reckless Destroyer to increase the target's Bleed gauge. Add the positioning tools deliberately: Reel In closes distance with a chain, Shield Slam knocks enemies back, and Brutal Crash charges and staggers while reducing incoming damage.
- With Warhammer, practice Surging Heat for Burn and learn how Thundering Hurl uses stored Thunder. Keep your attention on what each action uses or applies before trying to weave them together. Treat this as a learning exercise rather than a prescribed damage rotation.
- Practice the Meteor Hammer-to-Galactic Impact relationship separately. Meteor Hammer channels stored power, and Galactic Impact releases that accumulated power. Choose an opening you can recognize consistently instead of rushing the release whenever you feel pressured.
- Try the other weapon before settling on your preferred approach. Combat weapon swapping gives you access to different skills, while the separate trait trees let you develop each weapon differently. Compare how well you manage the fight with each kit, then choose your next trait investment around the actions you actually use.
Plan Traits and Stats Around Your Next Problem
Weapon traits can provide stat boosts, unlock skills or change how existing skills work. Open the Traits menu and read the path for your preferred weapon before committing points. Look for an improvement that addresses your current difficulty rather than copying a complete build whose priorities may differ from yours.
For stat decisions, Strength raises physical attack, Agility adds physical attack and critical hit chance, Constitution increases HP and resistance to critical hits, and Endurance increases stamina and defense. The character screen previews the resulting changes before you confirm your allocation. Use that preview to compare an offensive investment with a survivability investment for the encounter troubling you.
If you need more trait points, their source is Raeven's Coilstones near powerful bosses, rather than character levels. That gives you a concrete progression goal when your preferred weapon needs further development. Consider pursuing a Coilstone challenge instead of repeating the same unsuccessful encounter without changing your approach.
Launch Changes That Affect Demo Guides
The same letter reports more reliable Fatal Strike activation and a fix preventing Slaughter from switching targets when used on a downed enemy. Disarming with Parry also costs less durability, while bosses resist max-HP-scaling skills more strongly. Account for these changes when comparing an older demonstration's targeting, durability use or boss damage with your own results.
Broader combat-feel work remains an ongoing Early Access effort: XLGAMES says it chose not to rush changes to stamina, hit stun, movement speed and hit feel before launch. Additional weapon types are also future additions, rolled out class by class. Build your immediate practice plan around Axe and Shield and Warhammer, then revisit it as those announced updates arrive.
